Day in the Life’ of an Archaeologist

Posted on: 29/05/2023

Nower Hill was very pleased to host Clauida Tommasino, who gave our students an insight into a ‘Day in the Life’ of an Archaeologist. Ms Tommasino has over 10 years experience in Archaeology, with a special interest in field work.

Nower Hill students greatly enjoyed this extracurricular event, with many staying behind to ask further questions. Ms Tommasino advised on the educational route to Archaeology, the different sectors in the profession, the most enjoyable and challenging aspects of the profession, and key projects she has personally been involved with.

Year 12 Students shared that the event was “so exciting” especially “seeing the Artefacts in person, it’s not an experience I thought I would have so early on”. Nower Hill students enjoyed hearing about Ms Tommasino educational and professional journey, with Year 11 students commenting on how “inspiring it was to see the projects she had been involved in. In particular the field work”.

Thank you to Ms Tommasino for taking the time to share her valuable experience with Nower Hill students!

Nower Hill,  I’m so happy you chose to learn more about Archaeology! And I hope the talk showed you that Archaeology has a place for everyone! You can use science, you can use your imagination, you can use your muscles, you can use your detective instinct. Archaeology can be whatever you want it to be and at the end the result is very rewarding: sharing with everyone what you have discovered! In a multicultural world, archaeology creates a sense of belonging to our shared heritage. If you want to learn more watch ‘Digging for Britain’ on the BBC!” ~ Ms Tommasino.
