Culture Day 2022

Posted on: 03/05/2022

Last Friday we marked Stephen Lawrence Day by holding a Nower Hill Cultural Day in school. The day was a huge success and one we would like to continue as part of the yearly school calendar.

Many students across all year groups worked extremely hard, alongside our 6th Form Diversity and Equality Committee, to plan the event. Students set up different stalls in the hall representing their different cultures and communities within Nower Hill. The stalls showcased important figures, included recipes for popular sweet and savoury dishes and facts about each culture. Many students and staff also brought in items of clothing, cookware and homeware that they use widely within their cultures and also shared snacks and foods popular within their cultures.

It was lovely to see so many of our students attending the event and broadening their knowledge of the diversity within our school. Our Year 7 students were given the opportunity to exclusively experience the different cultures whilst completing tasks on a ‘passport’ which was given to them. They worked really well, completing the tasks set, asking questions and engaging well with the students running the stalls.

It was an excellent event and we are very grateful for all the hard work students and staff put into the event. We hope to continue this tradition in future years to come.
