Outstanding Work, Sehasa Guruge Y8

Posted on: 20/05/2020

Year 8 were tasked with researching and writing a song about the Grunwick Strike, which took place in Willesden between 1976 and 1978, as part of their history work. The class was asked to write a song about the dispute and Jayaben Desai (leader of the strike) which could be added to musician Frank Turner's latest album 'No Mans Land'.

Frank is a singer-songwriter and touring musician who has played sold out shows across the world including at the 02 and Wembley Arena. His latest album is about women whose stories have been missing from history and was recorded in Willeseden; but did not have a song about Jayaben Desai.

All the songs were sent to Frank Turner who subsequently judged them and decided Sehasa's song lyrics were the best.

Read these lyrics for yourself and see how Sehasa captures the nature of Jayaben Desai and the Grunwick Strike. Well done Sehasa!
