Posted on: 30/01/2023

This week for their Personal Development topic students have been exploring resources relating to Holocaust Memorial Day.

Holocaust Memorial Day is a national commemoration day in the United Kingdom dedicated to the remembrance of the Jews and others who suffered in the Holocaust, under Nazi persecution. It was first held in January 2001 and has been held on 27th January the same date every year. The Holocaust Memorial day focus this year has been on ‘Ordinary People’, students had an opportunity to explore how ordinary people were perpetrators, bystanders, rescuers, witnesses - and ordinary people were victims. Students also looked at particular objects related to the stories of survivors.

Their key area of discussion focused on ‘How can ordinary people, such as ourselves, play a bigger part than we might imagine in challenging prejudice today?’ Students in PRE and PSE lessons also had the opportunity to hear testimonies from Holocaust survivors.
