What our current Year 7s have to say

“Hello, my name is Arav. Year 7 is amazing. No matter how nervous I was in September, the staff were very supportive and helped me with every turn. It was then that happiness flooded my heart. A big school may be quite scary to you, but truly it means there are more people to make friends with. Every subject I’m sure you will find very interesting and fun. I hope you will enjoy this school as much as I do”.

“Hi, my name is Ishen and I am in Year 7. So far, school has been amazing. I was so anxious in Year 6 about starting a new school, and now I realise how silly I was, as Nower Hill is such a brilliant school. There are a large variety of interesting subjects which are not taught at Primary school, like Classics, Oracy, Citizenship, and more. There are also many clubs which the school offer which are loads of fun, such as Trampolining, Basketball, Football, Classics, Science, Geography and Philosophy. I have been involved in many extra-curricular activities and have had a great time.  You may be scared right now about joining us, but don’t be. There’s no need to be scared at Nower Hill! ”

“Hi, my name is Kylan. I was really nervous when going into Year 7, but when I first came in, I knew I had nothing to worry about. All the teachers are really understanding, and always helped me when I was in need of assistance. I made lots of new friends really quickly. There are many subjects that you may not have done before, such as Classics and Oracy. There are also many extra-curricular activities such as Science Club, Badminton and Coding Club. These are all amazing clubs, however, there are many more! The lunches are also really good as we have a canteen and four other tuck shops. I’ve really enjoyed my time at Nower Hill so far and I’m sure you will as well. Our school motto is ‘service not self’.”

“Hi, my name is Roshni. I am one of the 324 year 7s who joined Nower Hill in September. I know that may seem like a large number but every student is coming from the same position as you. They all have left their primary school and most of their friends might not be in the same high school as them, so there is no need to be nervous. All of the teachers are friendly and if you got a bit lost, a teacher or student would be happy to direct you.”

“Hi, my name is Corenna. For those of you who are reading this, don’t worry about high school or going to Nower Hill, you will be fine. I know most of you will be worrying about moving schools, making friends and finding your way, but the truth is - don’t worry.

Nower Hill is an excellent school. Your first day here might be one of the most stressful, but after an hour or two, you will be having a great time. When I look back, I laugh at how silly I was for stressing over going to high school because there is nothing to worry about in the first place and if you get lost, people will be there for you. I once got lost and an older student missed his own lesson time to guide me to where I needed to be.

In the end, you can’t stop life from progressing onward so don’t worry about the little things like going to high school – it will be a blast!”
