A Level Drama

Posted on: 30/01/2023

It has been a busy couple of weeks in the Drama Department.  Rehearsals and organisation for our School Production the week after half term are in full flow and we have enjoyed trip opportunities and workshops with external practitioners.

Last week our Year 12 and 13 A Level Drama Students went on a joint trip with John Lyon School to see the 2007 recording of Equus, starring Richard Griffiths and Daniel Radcliffe.  The students are expected to write about the play in their written examination, which is worth 40% of their A Level grade and all felt seeing the production brought to life on the screen was invaluable.

On Tuesday 24th January we welcomed 'Fourth Monkey Theatre Company' to run a workshop with our Year 13 students, to support them in developing their monologues for their Component 2 performance examination and also their entries to the Watford Drama Festival.  Darcy from Fourth Monkey was once again so impressed with our students.  She said:  "Playfulness and openness in performance is not found in every single school and it is clear it is at the forefront at Nower Hill.  This will serve the students incredibly well for drama school auditions and for every job/job interview they will go to in the future.  Willingness to be receptive in life is essential and these students demonstrated it in abundance.  I am so massively impressed with these students.  The level of their performance work is beyond A-Level standard and is similar to undergraduate performance standard."

What wonderful praise for our Drama students - well done to them all!
