'Le Val D'Escriens - French Alps' - Lower School
The lower school ski trip ran again in April 2010, departing from Nower Hill on Friday April 2nd and returned Saturday 10th April. We had a change this year and headed to 'Vars ' in France, one of the more traditional French resorts, staying at:-
'Le Val D'Escriens', 1,500m from the nearest lift. Vars offers extensive skiing and there are runs for all abilities. This holiday centre was located at the entrance to Vars-St Marcellin village offering superb skiing within Forêt Blanche ski area. The accommodation had 32 bedrooms, most of which have a shower and sink. The building had three floors and facilities include a cosy lounge area with fireplace, an activities room which doubles up for in-house discos, a bar with billiard table, a large terrace, a small games room and a restaurant offering stunning panoramic views. The closest lift, a 4-man chair, is located 1500 m away in Ste Marie and is easily accessible using the shuttle bus service.
The combined Risoul/Vars ‘Forêt Blanche’ ski area is home to some of the next skiing in the Southern Alps. The resort boasts an enviable snow and sunshine record as well as an excellent range of pistes for skiers and boarders of all abilities.
Thanks to Risoul’s southerly position, skiers can enjoy plenty of sunshine throughout the day, whilst the mainly north-facing slopes hold the snow very well. Yearly investments are also made into improving the already extensive snowmaking facilities. For beginners, large nursery areas can be found in Risoul village and many gentle green runs found in Vars. Intermediates will be spoilt for choice with 37 reds and many long blues leading back down to the village. You will also find some exciting blacks on La Mayt and Pte de Razis. For boarders, the ‘Surfland Snowpark’ is home to the largest ‘super’ pipe in France at 150m long.
