VERY SEVERE WEATHER

In such an event, the key factor determining whether the school can open (or remain open) is the health and safety of the school community.

Unfortunately, it is often not possible to make a decision until the morning of a school day.  It is, therefore, difficult to give parents/carers sufficient warning of school closure, despite our best endeavours.  London has a large number of local radio stations and a large number of schools – even with a message sent via a radio station there is no guarantee that all of you will receive it.

We will, however, put a message as soon as we can on the front page of this website: www.nowerhill.harrow.sch.uk, and/or on the school's Managed Learning Environment page:- 'Fronter'.

I would, therefore, ask for your understanding in the event of very severe weather.

The best advice I can give is for parents/carers to exercise common sense on the day in determining whether to send your daughter/son to school.

If a pupil arrives at school in the morning on a day when school has had to be closed or if severe weather during a school day requires an early closure of school on that day, pupils will be sent home if we believe that they will be safe and secure.  We have to use our judgement and knowledge of our pupils.  If we have any doubt we will contact a parent/carer before sending a pupil home.

Yours sincerely,
