BACKGROUND

The Governments pledge is that by 2010, ‘all children should have access to a variety of activities beyond the school day’ and that these will give them ‘the opportunity to keep fit and healthy, to acquire new skills, to build on what they learn during the school day or simply to have fun and relax

The Pinner Cluster of Extended Schools is a family of 10 schools in the Pinner area who gained Extended Schools Status in March 2006.

Our aim as an extended schools cluster is to develop a core offer of extended services which will enable children, young people, parents and wider community members to pursue wider interests, develop new skills and access specialist help that they might need to resolve difficulties and fulfil potential.

An extended service is a key way of meeting the needs of a community to ensure that every child no matter what their circumstances or background has the support they need to be.

·     Be healthy

·     Stay safe

·     Enjoy and achieve

·     Make a positive contribution

·     Achieve economic well-being

 What are the benefits?

There is evidence that extended services can help to-

  • Improve pupil attendance, self confidence and motivation, therefore potential for impact on achievement
  • Better enable teachers to focus on teaching and learning
  • Enhance children’s and families access to service

Our cluster will need to work closely with parents, children and others to shape the extended schools activities around the needs of the community.

If you have any ideas or thoughts about extended schools activities please contact Ms Sukhi Cooper who is the Extended Schools Coordinator on 020 8416 7194.
