NEW 6th Form Centre Picture above shows the brand new £4million purpose built 6th form block at the school that opened in September 2009.

We are delighted to have welcomed

Year 7 in addition to Year 8 students in September 2010.

Our facilities have been further enhanced for September 2010 by the addition of a block of another 5 Science laboratories (giving us a total of 15 Science labs)

built on the former lower playground and a 12 classroom English teaching block which is in front of the Gristwood Centre. We also have a brand new air conditioned Main Hall and stage area, as well as a

new fitness suite in the Gristwood Centre.

We now have a brand new purpose built block for the 6th form at the school that opened in September 2009.

Nower Hill's new 6th Form started in September 2006, and we now have a brand new block. Our Y12 and Y13 that started in 2009 were the first students to use the new facilities. It is a 3 storey high construction adjoining the gym, and consists of offices, an interview room, a huge common room (with wireless connections, sockets in the floor, some healthy vending machines, lockers, and computers), 8 classrooms, an additional computer room, and about 65 computers in total for 6th form only use.

Development of School Site

new building

The design of the 6th Form block is modern, with a glass wall facing our playing fields. It also takes cognisance of environmental issues, so the build has vented air circulation built into the whole of one wall in each room (negating the need for air conditioning), special window glass to cut down infra-red whilst still allowing light, low energy heating and lighting throughout, and high insulation properties throughout.

We have had a few benefits as well. A new large canopy has been built to the side of the building facing George V Avenue which now means that there is cover for the whole of the break and lunch queue to the dining centre. We have a new path by our pond, and it enables the children to appreciate the green area at the front of the school.

It has been built with its top floor restricted to only 6th Form students, the top floor consists of a fairly large common room as well as a 'Silent Study' room.
