Nower Hill High School
Topics covered in KS4 Citizenship include:
The Citizenship Department is... an experienced, successful and cohesive department that is currently part of the wider Humanities Faculty. (History, Geography, Philosophy, Religion and Ethics (PRE), Citizenship, Government & Politics and Sociology). From September 2010, Citizenship will be part of a new Faculty – the Social and Economic Studies Faculty. This will consist of Business Studies, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Citizenship/PSHE and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills. We are a strong and well-resourced faculty, offering pupils a challenging and positive learning experience.
The Citizenship Department...
strongly supports active citizenship within the school and has been central to a number of very successful events in recent years, for example Youth Question Time, Operation Empower and Gig in the Park. We are currently heavily involved in the Alan Sennit Memorial Trust Future Leaders Programme and the Youth Philanthropy Initiative. For a number of years we have held very successful Citizenship Days for each year group involving outside agencies and the expertise of Nower Hill staff. These have focused on topics such as youth crime, charities and volunteering, local government and financial citizenship. Many colleagues within the school have contributed to these days.
