Course Description
2010-2012 - This is a very exciting course now well established at Nower Hill. We are following a new specification which allows you to focus more on practical work. You will need to choreograph two of your own dances to be performed and presented to others. You will perform in a group dance piece and also learn a contemporary dance solo. You will develop your ability to analyse and appraise your own work as well as two pieces of professional repertoire. You will see live dance performances to inspire your choreography to produce dance that conveys meaning, articulates style and inspires the audience!

Examination Details
1. Critical Appreciation of Dance - 20% Written paper – 1 hour Candidates answer questions on two professional works.
2. Set Dance – 20% Practical examination marked on video by AQA.
Candidates perform one solo dance of approximately 1 to 1½ minutes.
3. Performance in a duo/group dance based on Swansong by Christopher Bruce - 20%
4. Choreography – 40% Candidates choreograph two pieces as follows.
Solo Composition task - 15%
Group Choreography based on a chosen theme – 25%
Tier of Entry
There is no tier of entry, all students will be graded A* - G.

The content of the course will provide you with an appropriate base of study to proceed to BTEC Performing Arts and to AS and A level Dance.
* Due to constraints of space for the practical elements of this course, the class size must be limited to 12 students.

Our Arts Faculty
at Nower Hill High school has continually grown over the years. It has a strong tradition of excellence in creativity, exam results, productions and exhibitions, most importantly it is a faculty where students can enjoy making Art and Design, Photography, Media, and Music regardless of their ability.
Students also enjoy taking part in high quality Dance and Drama productions. Due to Nower Hill being an Arts College the department has participated in projects with the local community, including many of our local feeder schools.
