Nower Hill High School
Training schemes, Apprenticeships
and E2E Programmes
If you are considering leaving full – time education to enter work or training you need to look at the range of
opportunities available to you and how your career can develop through experience and training. Many of the
most exciting opportunities include working towards a recognised qualification that can support your progression in
your chosen career.
Learning at work – NVQ Work Based Learning offers young people between 16 and 18 the opportunity to gain work experience, earn money and work towards a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at the same time. NVQs are qualifications, designed and approved by employers, which reflect the skills and knowledge needed in the work place. You can start your working life as an apprentice gaining skills and knowledge while earning.
Apprenticeships These provide training in occupational areas, the opportunity to work towards an NVQ Level 2 and the key skills – information technology, communication, using numbers and improving learning and performance – required by all employees. These skills are transferable to any work place. Entry normally includes an assessment procedure. There is a structured training programme based on the skills identified by the industry as essential. There are optional modules allowing employers and trainees to tailor the training to meet their needs. The qualification offers a direct route to skills and experience need for jobs today and in the future. Apprenticeships open a range of further opportunities. Young people can progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship or return to education to gain additional qualifications.
Advanced Apprenticeship This scheme aims to produce the technicians and managers of the future. Advanced Apprenticeships work towards NVQ Level 3 and the key skills. They work to the industry-designed framework to ensure that they gain the breadth of experience important to their progression. There is again some flexibility to relate the training to meet the employer’s needs.
Not yet ready to start an apprenticeship? Entry 2 Employment (E2E) or pre apprenticeship programme could be the option for you.
These programmes aim to help young people between the statutory school leaving age and their 19 th birthdays who are not yet ready or able to enter apprenticeship programmes or other employment opportunities directly. The aim is to develop motivation, confidence and personal effectiveness as well as offering support with basic skills and improving knowledge of work through tasters and work placements.
