The Year 11 Ball 2009 was on Thursday 12th Feb in the school hall
There was formal dancing, a band, a DJ, food and refreshments, a videographer and photographer, games and competitions. Photos for this years ball will be here shortly.
On 12th February 2009 260+ year 11's put on their smartest suits and their prettiest dresses and flocked to a very different looking School hall for the Valentines Ball. Throughout the day the excitement had been building as everyone discussed their outfits, hair dressing appointments, being picked up by their party buses and limousines amongst urgency about collecting their tickets!
At 3:15pm a very large, loud and excited group crowded outside the Gristwood to meet the bouncers, AKA Mr White and Miss Coombs, to filter everyone in and out to collect their tickets. By 7:30 the first few gentlemen had arrived and paraded down the red carpet and through the entrance lit by fairy lights, carrying flowers for their dates. Soon the hall, decorated with balloon displays, began to fill and all were most interested in comparing dresses, make up and hair do's. The DJ's, ex pupils Michael and Ian Smart played everyone in and at 8pm the Nower Hill Soul Orchestra kicked the evening off. Miss Cox and her team of professional helpers took charge of the filming of the night for the DVD and Josh Bolland was on hand as photographer. Both were really well made and provided a lovely piece of memorabilia. 6th form volunteers helped to ensure the evening ran smoothly by taking on responsibilities.
A wonderfully delicious spread of food and drinks were provided by caterers and Mr Soor brought in the touch screen message service to capture messages and moments for the Year book. Several staff attended the evening and all commented on how fantastic the evening was and how glamorous Year 11 looked. Mrs Jeanes, who had been teaching 4 dances to the Year 11's was very impressed at how enthusiastically everyone danced and how well they recognised the music for each dance as well as the steps! Prizes were given out for a variety of competitions such as spikiest hair do, biggest heels, closest dancing couple and tangiest tango! Well done to everyone that came to the ball and thanks to everyone that helped to make the evening such a success.
