Study Tips for Year 11
THE HARDEST PART IS GETTING STARTED
Don't make excuses for NOT doing the work. Start with something that doesn't put too much strain on you, but gets you going, like watching bitesize revision courses, trying questions at the end of a section, to see how much you can remember in the first place, looking through homeworks that you have done, reminding yourself of where you were successful and where you went wrong.
DO IT PROPERLY
When you do get into it properly, DON'T just read your books, thinking the information will somehow magically sink in. You have to DO something ACTIVELY with the work. For example: jot down key points, read out loud, construct a spider diagram as you go along, use a highlighter pen on the main facts you have to remember, make lists, record things on tape (to play back at times when you don't feel like being on your own in your room, or when you are on the bus/train etc.) Cover up the work and say it in your head to check your learning.
Remember that the key factors for success are:
REPETITION REPETITION REPETITION
In other words, the more you go over things, the more you remember. Learning it just once is a recipe for disaster. You need to go over it the next day, 3 days later, 1 week later then 3 weeks later.
