Report from June 2009
I am very happy to report that we won both our matches at the Can Am Women's Rugby Tournament in Denver Colorado. Canada A played USA A on Tuesday June 24th 2009 and won 10-7. and Canada played USA on Saturday June 28th and won 25-17. It was a fantastic match, hard running and hitting. 4 yellow cards in total (2 for each team). Canada had their 8 woman sent off after only 4 minutes for punching an opponent in a ruck (though she says she was retaliating from being hit first...likely story!). Then about 15 minutes later we had a centre sin binned for playing the ball from an offside position. The USA had one yellow card in the first half and one in the second. The score was 5-5 at half time (Mandy Marchuk, our centre scored this for us). Once we, Canada, got the ball out to the backs, they did very well. We scored twice on the wing (vice captain Maria Gallo)in quick succession. We also scored off a stolen line out ball by driving over the line and I was the lucky one on the end of the ball- my first try for Canada, 8 years in and Captain! The USA did not tire, and scored two unanswered tries in the last 8 minutes of play. Fortunately we had secured a strong lead and were victorious at the end of the game.
If you're interested in knowing more, please check out my updated BLOG and links page on Miss Cripps' Road to World Cup Fronter page. It was a great tour and I am looking forward to meeting up with my team again in August at the Nations Cup where 5 countries will compete for top spot. Miss Leslie Cripps

Teaching science and being a year co-ordinator is only a part of who I am; the other is playing for the Canadian Women’s National Rugby team.
I have been a member of the team since 2001, participating in two World Cups ( Barcelona, Spain 2002 and Edmonton, Canada 2006) and having the absolute privilege of captaining the side since 2006.
In August 2010 the 5th IRB Women’s Rugby World Cup will be held here in England.
The top 12 nations around the world will descend on London in a bid to come out World Champions.
