On 5th April 2008, 34 pupils from years 9 to 12 flew off to sunny Italy to tour the archaeological wonders of Rome, Ostia and Pompeii. They were accompanied by Miss Ryan, Miss Morgan and Ms Wilkinson. In Rome, in addition to visiting the most famous sites of the Roman Empire, including the Colosseum, the Forum and the Pantheon, we visited the Vatican City, which is the smallest country in the world and home to the Pope. We tested ourselves out whether we could really speak Latin there! For the second half of our week away, we were based on the Bay of Naples. We visited the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, which were destroyed in the volcanic eruption of AD 79 and climbed Mount Vesuvius itself (we were told it's still dormant at the moment...!). We feasted on Italian food and enjoyed the scenery before flying home on 12th April for a rest!

Looking forward to our trip to Provence in France, coming up soon.......
