How did you do in your GCSEs?
I got 7 A*s and 3 As.
I was ecstatic, totally overwhelmed!
Are you pleased you chose to study in Nower Hill 6th Form?
I studied English, Sociology and P.E. at A2 and I really enjoyed it. It was a nurturing environment where teachers and students work for the same goal. A levels are much harder than GCSE’s but I really enjoyed the challenge. I would really recommend Nower Hill 6th Form.
How did the AS levels go?
I was really pleased; I achieved 3 A grades and a B
What did you do after you finished at Nower Hill?
Sociology at Loughborough or Warwick
Would you recommend Nower Hill 6th Form?
Definitely! It’s a really good environment to work in, everyone is friendly and teachers really want to help you succeed.
What made you decide to stay at Nower Hill for 6th Form?
I did consider going elsewhere, but then I realised how proud of the school I am and how much I had enjoyed the 4 years before in Y's 8 - 11. The atmosphere at school was fantastic and I got on so well with all the teachers. I am really glad I stayed.
How did your AS levels go?
They were very different to GCSEs but really enjoyable. You need to force yourself to do lots of work in the evenings! I found it very motivating to only do the subjects that I was really interested in.
What did you plan to do after you finished at Nower Hill?
I’m not totally sure yet, but I do know that I definitely want to go to university, probably to study psychology.
Would you recommend Nower Hill 6th Form?
Definitely 100%! I really enjoyed 6th Form; I made great friends there and couldn’t see myself having gone anywhere else.
Ex - Pupil Case Studies
Student’s attainment benefits from our Arts College status;
the Art department is an enhanced environment, we have the ability to procure materials and equipment and we have
used Arts College funding to improve the continous professional development for our highly trained staff.
Two case studies of ex-students who have benefited from these enhancements are outlined below:
Kate had a target grade of B at GCSE in Art. Her interest and ability was identified at an early stage and encouraged and enhanced through individual tutorials over her last two years. She blossomed over time not only fulfilling the requirements of the assessment criteria, but in her final pieces, she surpassed the highest expectations of her phase of study, producing work that would not look out of place at the end of two years study at A level. Kate looked set to achieve an A* this study.
Ian had always been able, however last year he excelled even further. He received focused individual attention throughout the AS course in the form of formal tutorials and informal personal direction. Schemes of learning were meticulously planned and contain a very high level of challenge. Resources and national and private gallery visits were integrated. Ian achieved 60/60 in Unit 1, 60/60 in unit 2 and 59/60 in unit 3. Not only did he fully meet the demands of the assessment criteria but he consistently surpassed it, producing work that would not look out of place at any university’s BA Hons Fine Art degree course. He was accepted onto the prestigious UCL Aim Higher Arts workshop week held at the Slade School of Art.
Ian not only shone in the Fine Art disciplines of painting and sculpting; he is also an accomplished photographer. He also won the digital imaging section of the Kodak photography competition, an acclaimed annual open submission photography.
