Nower Hill Careers Fair

Posted on: 12/11/2018

On Wednesday 31st October the Careers Department hosted the first Careers Fair for students.  The main aim of the Careers Fair was to inform students about the different opportunities available to them when they leave school at either 16 or 18 so that they are able to make the most appropriate decisions for them.  Various employers, Further Education Colleges and Universities were represented on the day, as well as Ask Apprenticeships, a government charity providing information on apprenticeships.

Students enjoyed talking about their post-16 prospects including electrical engineering with UK Power Networks; finance with the Bank of England; retail with Aldi; the Metropolitan Police and the Army, as well as and local colleges, including Harrow, Uxbridge, Stanmore and West Herts. For those 6th Formers considering post-18 options we had several universities represented: Aston, Brunel, City, Westminster and Royal Holloway.

Our students were encouraged to research the various visitors to our Careers Fair in advance as the better informed they are, the more confident they will be in making suitable decisions about their futures. Comments during the event included:

"It's really useful to look at all the universities and see what they have to offer' Joey, Year 6

"It gives you a new perspective on life after Year 11"  Sara, Year 11

"It's really interesting, helping you to choose paths for the future"  Keira, Year 11

"It's very useful to see a range of colleges rather than the ones I'd initially considered"  Emily, Year 11

'It's interesting to have lots of information about careers paths in the Bank of England" Cameron, Year 11

Many of our visitors were pleased at how confident and polite our students were and what intelligent questions they were asked by students.

Both students and representatives found the Careers Fair a useful and enjoyable experience, so we hope to repeat the event next year.
