Box Tale Soup Visits Nower Hill High School

Posted on: 05/02/2020

On Thursday 30th January we were extremely fortunate to have the prestigious Theatre Company Box Tale Soup visit Nower Hill High School to perform the play The Turn of the Screw for our GCSE Drama students.

The production is a brand new adaptation of Henry James’ disturbing story of horror and corruption. The Turn of the Screw premiered at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, enjoying a sold-out three week run. (click here to see The Turn of the Screw website).

We organised this production to enable our Year 9 and Year 10 Drama students to have a live performance to engage with to prepare them for their written examination. In Year 11, students will be using the west-end production of Woman in Black for the examination, so this production was ideal in terms of preparing them with the skills of evaluating a gothic/horror performance in the comfort of our school hall.

The performance was also an incredibly useful experience for Year 12 students in preparation for their written examination which focuses on evaluating live theatre.

The students were mesmerised by the production and had lots of questions for the company at the end of the performance. It was not only a very entertaining morning, but extremely informative and educational and we look forward to getting Box Tale Soup into school again in the future.
