OVO Energy Innovators Competition Finals

Posted on: 18/09/2019

On Monday 9th September, four of our Year 10 students were invited to attend the OVO Energy Innovators Competition Finals in London, after their idea was selected as a finalist from all of the national entries to this STEM Competition.

The competition required students to come up with an innovation to overcome the barriers to cycling and Aleena, Anya, Esme and Maiya came up with the idea of an app that cyclists could use to find the safest route to their destination, based on notifications and alerts from other cyclists.

The girls presented their ideas to an esteemed panel of judges, which included representation from OVO Energy, Plexal Innovation and STEM Learning as well as Former Olympic Cycling Champion Chris Boardman MBE. As part of the day they also got the opportunity to see presentations of ideas from University and Start up groups, which are taking shape as finished products.

We were extremely impressed with the quality of work shown by our students and were very proud that this was recognised as they finished runners up in the competition. Mr Boardman even commented that he was planning to work on a similar idea in Manchester. Congratulations to the team.
